Oliv Oliv (Olivier Terpstra) is a composer, producer, and sound artist who creates immersive sonic worlds where synthesis technologies merge with traditional acoustic instruments, field recordings, and narrative storytelling. His music serves as a bridge between cultures, transforming fading memories into vivid auditory experiences through dynamic interplay between different sound traditions.
Armed with a background in Film Studies (University of Amsterdam) and a Master's degree in Sound Design (HKU Utrecht), Oliv Oliv specializes in spatial audio composition, crafting three-dimensional soundscapes that envelope listeners in immersive storytelling environments. His expertise in spatial sound has led to residencies at prestigious venues, including Berlin's MONOM Studio, where he explored cutting-edge 4D sound technology. As a member of the Spatial Audio Network Europe (SANE), Oliv Oliv has performed on multi-speaker installations, including a 20-speaker setup at Effenaar Eindhoven, a +40-speaker setup in Hellerau, Dresden and performed at the Italian showcase festival Linecheck in Milan in 2025. This year This year marks a significant milestone as he joins 100 select acts touring with the Netherlands' renowned Popronde festival across more than 40 cities.
His debut full-length album Tehran Mountains (2025, Uncloud Editions) represents the culmination of an extensive intercultural collaboration with Iranian artist Meshkat Talebi. Through bilingual narration and the integration of traditional Persian instruments like the kamancheh and oud, the album explores themes of cross-border connection, Iranian history, and the complexities of intercultural relationships in contemporary times.
